3rd Gene Edited Fish Notified in Japan

The 3rd variety of genome edited fish was notified in Japan on 24th October, 2023.
This is a new variety of flounder fish with improved feed efficiency and growth rate by disrupting leptin receptor gene.
The mechanism of action of the genome edited fish is same as that of the 2nd generation genome edited fish, puffer fish.
The regional fish developer of the genome edited fish has already commercialized the 1st (red sea bream) and the 2nd genome edited fish varieties.
We will continue to advise our customers on Japan’s regulation on gene edited products helping to expand their business opportunities in Japan.
